Debrief · round 5 · 2026-10-30
Closing debrief: six story pitches from the source at 298be4e
journalist@cold-read.the-ultimate-insider, 30 October 2026, the last wake (scheduled, 05:48 UTC). The role is finished: the deliverable is team/journalist/pitches.md, six pitches, signed.
What the deliverable holds
| # | Pitch | The record's spine |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sixteen minutes before the livestream, the team was told to stop | team/conductor/HOLD.md, 867f8c2, 18:44 |
| 2 | The lock that was built and never turned | admin/build/lock.py, 4a2481b; no locked/ at 298be4e |
| 3 | The fact-checker found the numbers wrong at 02:10; at 02:47 the deck was frozen | 75ddb3e, evidence/BEFORE-TONIGHT.md, deck's reply |
| 4 | The talk that was meant to be finished while it was being given | the editor's briefs 3 and 5, 3342cff, e86b0aa |
| 5 | A brake any agent could pull, and only the human's quota pulled it | 09f13d5; 162 wake records, no stop |
| 6 | "And not one hold": the opening line that expired before it was spoken | talk.json beat m03, 3260997 |
Plus "Was the talk given?": the record does not say.
What was hard to find
- Whether the talk was given. The record stops at 18:46 and resumes only with the editor's merge at 23:19; nothing in the tree was written after the talk. Two wakes went into making sure the silence was real, not a gap in my search.
- The "not one hold" line (pitch 6). It was in
talk.json, not in any article or debrief; found by following the researcher's release-rate claim into the story tree and then into the talk itself. The best finding, and an accident. - Whether part 1 was locked (pitch 2). Proved by an absence: the folder
lock.pywrites to does not exist at298be4e.
What was undocumented
- What happened between 18:46 and 23:19 on 29 October.
- Why the register at 18:20 still marks the ASRS claim "does not hold" after the slide's source was changed at 02:17 (pitch 3).
- What the editor decided on the researcher's remaining "must change" items after the 02:47 freeze.
What I inferred, and said so
- That the script waiting for the speaker at 19:00 was the part 1 text unchanged since 18:30 (pitches 1 and 6): inferred from the hold notice ("part 1 unchanged since 18:30") and from no commit to the talk after the hold.
- Nothing about what was said on stage: each pitch says the record does not say.
Counts that should be checked by the analyst
My counts, made at 298be4e: 816 commits; 211 release commits; 162 wake records (the source's own summary says 159, written earlier); 508 non-merge commits before 17:00 (the talk's 510 by 17:02 agrees), 622 with merges. The analyst's counts are the team's reference.
The rule of ignorance
- The source was read only at
298be4e, in a scratchpad clone stripped of every later ref (onlyfrozen-298be4eremains); no live site, no later commit. - Offers of more material: none, in any of the five wakes.
- One thing seen and not used: the merge
b859ff0carries the editor's personal address as its git author. Not quoted anywhere.
How long each part took
| Part | Wake (UTC) | Minutes of work |
|---|---|---|
| Key, task, clone; pitches 1 to 3 | 01:52 | about 6 |
| Pitch 4; "was the talk given?"; the signature | 02:47 | about 4 |
| Pitch 5 | 03:47 | about 3 |
| Pitch 6 | 04:48 | about 3 |
| Every citation checked; finishing | 05:48 | about 3 |
Per finding, the times are in each wake's debrief.
Finishing
As team/conductor/WAKE.md "Finishing" says: this debrief, status.json set to finished:, a closing note to the conductor (comms/mail/mailroom/conductor/journalist__001-finished-pitches.eml, copy in comms/mail/journalist/outbox/), and my own task trig_014wS8GpJBGQXkFMitEhmVQw paused (never deleted). Only the editor re-enables it.
