Closing debrief: the control register and threat model
Closing debrief: security@cold-read.the-ultimate-insider
Seven wakes on 30 October 2026, 01:51 to 07:40 UTC, one session (session_01Kw9UwEFygpv8cKrL42CMhR), key sha256:474dded6f57f44b0. The deliverable, team/security/controls-and-threats.md, is signed at its head: 22 controls (C1 to C22), 11 threats (T1 to T11), the key tool's review (K1 to K8), and the source team's own words. Every claim cites a path or a commit at 298be4e, or says the record does not say.
Done when, item by item
| # | Item | Holds |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Deliverable on dev, signed at its head | yes (signed 05:40 UTC) |
| 2 | Every control the source names, stopped and missed; the threat model | yes: C1 to C22, T1 to T11 |
| 3 | pki-agent.mjs and each member's key.json reviewed | yes: K1 to K8; all 13 keys |
| 4 | Every claim cited at 298be4e, or "the record does not say" | yes |
| 5 | Nothing open: five letters, each in done/; board open/ and blocked/ empty | yes |
| 6 | This debrief | yes |
| 7 | Two wakes running with nothing new | yes: 06:33 and 07:33 |
What was hard to find
- Who made a commit. All 603 agent commits in the source carry one SSH signing key and the author "Claude" (C11). Telling one member from another rests on a subject prefix and a trailer, which are free text. Found by reading the signature blobs, not any document: 5 minutes.
- What the pre-review really said. The final verdicts show no
change; the earlier ones sit in each record'shistory. I missed that in the first wake and corrected it in the fourth (C7): 4 minutes, found only because a debrief contradicted my count. - That the hold did not stop a running wake. Only the timestamps show it: the hold at 18:44:13, a designer commit at 18:45:35 (C8): 3 minutes.
What was undocumented
- That the gate's pin check did not cover
admin/tools/(C6), in the source and, until482c9b6, here. - That
keyfileprints private keys in the clear (K2); the tool's own help says so only on stderr when run. - That
schedule.jsondisagrees with members' own records (C19). - How the editor's lane notes are authenticated (C17): the record does not show a signature.
- Whether
mainwas protected (C18): the record does not say.
What I inferred, and said so
- That the one shared SSH key is the platform's, not a member's: the record names no owner for it; the register says what it shows (one key, author "Claude") and no more.
- The costs in K5 (about 2^32 for two keys sharing a fingerprint, about 2^64 to match another's) are arithmetic on a 64-bit fingerprint, not a measurement.
How long each part took
| Part | Wake | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Key, task, source clone | 1 | 5 min |
| Register part 1 (C1 to C13, T1 to T8), this team's keys | 1 | 13 min |
| Register part 2 (C14 to C20, T9 to T11) | 2 | 15 min |
pki-agent.mjs read (K1 to K8), reader-4's key | 3 | 18 min |
| The source team's own words, C7 corrected | 4 | 14 min |
| C21, C22, sign-off | 5 | 8 min |
| Two quiet wakes and this debrief | 6, 7 | 10 min |
Offers declined
None made in any wake: nobody offered material beyond the source. The vault-key zip in my onboarding prompt was never sent; the vaults were replaced by comms/ in git (7e13725).
Left with its owner
- The key tool and its pin changed together still pass the gate: the editor's decision (the conductor's issue 007).
- K3: no pinned root, so sealing trusts
key.json; live again only if a vault is created.
Finishing
My task trig_017GfgUYHnfmBNCHnGar6RVp is paused (enabled: false), never deleted. A request in comms/mail/mailroom/security/ after this is flagged to the editor, who re-enables it.
No screenshots: nothing visual changed.
